How to Actually Win in Lead Gen (And Why AI Won't Do It For You)

Generic AI website builders are flooding paid media with interchangeable lead-gen pages. Here's what actually wins in saturated ad markets, and how to use AI the right way without outsourcing the strategy that matters.

This just needs to be said. And yes, I'm about to go on a rant about AI and lead gen.

If you think you can open Lovable, or any other generic AI website builder, spin up a decent-looking lead-gen site in an afternoon or two, launch some ads, and compete against the biggest spenders in the most saturated industries, you're in for a rude awakening.

Every day, I see more people sharing the lead-gen sites they built with AI. And I can spot most of them from a mile away.

The average consumer may not consciously recognize that a page was built with AI. But they can still feel it.

Let me repeat that. They can still feel it.

The same layouts. The same gradients. The same icons. The same awkward animations. The same generic copy. The pages look polished at first glance, but somehow still feel bland, clunky, and completely interchangeable.

We're starting to flood paid media with generic AI landing pages in the same way generic AI content flooded Google search. And I believe most of these sites are going to fail, because the strategic work is missing.

Everyone is running the same offer

Take the legal space: "Find out how much your case is worth." Or solar: "See how much you can save with solar."

Everyone is running these offers right now.

So the plan is to generate another nice-looking page, use the same value proposition as everyone else, launch it into one of the most competitive ad markets in the world, and expect it to outperform companies spending millions?

Sure.

Most of us probably aren't going to outspend the biggest advertisers. We aren't going to win simply because our page looks modern. And we definitely aren't going to win by using the same AI-generated messaging as everyone else.

What actually wins

We win by:

  1. Moving faster than the competition while thinking more deeply than the competition.
  2. A real differentiator.
  3. A clear and compelling value proposition.
  4. Messaging that makes someone stop and pay attention.
  5. A funnel built around the traffic source, audience, offer, and economics of the campaign.
  6. A willingness to test aggressively until we find something that works.
  7. A faster, better tech stack.

None of those come out of a text prompt. They come out of judgment, and judgment is the one thing you can't outsource.

AI is electricity, not the strategist

I'm a huge proponent of AI. Clearly. I've even built AI throughout LeadCapture.

But I don't believe AI should replace the strategic work. That is a huge mistake.

I think of AI more like electricity. It should run throughout the platform, automate repetitive work, accelerate execution, and free people to spend more time on the decisions that actually matter.

The problem is that people are using AI to avoid those decisions entirely. They're outsourcing the implementation. Then the copy. Then the positioning. Then the offer. Then the differentiator.

And eventually, there's nothing human, or meaningfully different, left.

That's the mistake I see too many people making right now.

The right way to use AI
